Jane Hart published the results of a survey which show again that learning doesn’t happen just by sitting in a classroom or by completing an online course. Years of formalised and structured education programs which were rolled out by teams of trainers, instructional and learning designers may have worked in the past, but in a world where people now have self-driving cars, get their information at their fingertips and who easily find what they’re looking for on YouTube to do their job, forcing them to learn in a classroom or complete an online course that has no context or relevance isn’t a solution anymore. It will be do-it-yourself (via web search, web resources, …) and social (knowledge sharing within your team)!
